A Perfect Panorama Nordic Ski Day

If you think Panorama is just for alpine skiing, think again! There is also a beautiful cross country ski trail system tucked in the forest, with options for beginners and longer loops with steep hills for those who like a challenge. If you’re looking for a more relaxed alternative to downhill skiing, slip into a rhythm and settle in for a perfect winter day!

Fuel up for the day

Fireside Cafe & Lounge - Panorama Mountain Resort

Whether you stay one of the resort’s many accommodation options or in Invermere, a 25 minute drive away, start the day hungry. Stop by the takeout window or sit in at Fireside Café in the village near the upper parking lot. Choose from fresh baked pastries, savory goods, or a steaming drink from their generous menu.

Arriving at the Nordic Centre

Make your way to the Panorama Nordic Centre at Greywolf where the pace shifts with peaceful trails and soft snow. Pop in to the shop where they can help you with rental gear and trail recommendations.

Alternatively, you can ski over from the village on the Valley Trail.

Choosing your trails and settling in

Once you’re geared up and ready to ski, head left to Paradox if you’re a beginner skier to loop around part of the golf course and build confidence. More experienced skiers can head right to duck under the bridge and start the descent to the full network.

Intermediate skiers will enjoy Placer, a scenic, undulating trail that runs alongside the babbling Toby Creek. A couple kilometres in, the Pentagon Hut offers a peaceful place to pause looking out above the creek.

From Placer, a few loops branch off ranging in difficulty and length from short and spicy to fun and flowy.

For cardio kings and queens, head out on Great Scott until you reach the turnaround at Toby Creek Road (an out and back the full length of the trail adds on nearly 10km.)

Ski up to the Hale Hut for rewarding views worth the grind! Stay a while and warm up inside, lounge on the chairs out back and take in the mountains, or relax by the firepit.

Make your way back to Greywolf, leaving some energy for the climb back up to the bridge!

Wrap up the day

The day doesn’t have to end once your ski does. The Shack, conveniently located right outside Greywolf, is a great après spot with outdoor gas firepits, hot treats, and a selection of alcoholic beverages. If you’re looking for something more upscale, Cliffhanger in the Greywolf clubhouse offers nourishing meals with the same beautiful views.

Four legged friends welcome
